News Addition: Nunu's Retrofitted Retro Naked

This is our friend Neil (Nunu). He was one of the first to believe in Sam’s ability to design and create bicycles, and our ability to run a bicycle company. Neil has the very first bike that Sam ever made. This was back when our company was called Forte! Human Powered Machinery. The amount of bikes coming out of the shop that year could be counted on both hands. The year was 1998

Nunu sent us the second bike he got off us (#7) to get updated and retrofitted before he heads off to Brussels, Belgium. So happy to do this for Neil!

YES!! One of our Single Speed Steel 29er mountain bikes was reviewed by Dirt Rag. It’s in their latest issue (April 2012, #162). Very nice review. The bike was shipped out late fall and ridden over the winter. ALSO, this bike picked up a Best Mountain Bike award at the NAHBS in Sacramento this year.

John’s road bike is a mix of KVA and Reynolds 953 tubing. A very nice component package including Campagnolo Record 11 groupo and Campy Shamal wheels. This bike is fast and sleek weighing in at 15lbs.

On our little island of 2500 full time residents, we’ve got a wicked group of dedicated cyclists, that, come rain or shine or hail or snow or sun, are out there riding with the pack. Eamon is one of these. He’s recently taken up bike racing – look out world – you could say “the train has left the station”! Here’s his new Road Adventure. He was already pulling away and kicking some of our butts. Now…..he’s “dancing on the pedals”.

FOR SALE!!! This was one of the bikes ridden to NAHBS this year (and the Gates Carbon Belt Drive Design Contest Winner).

It’s a KVA stainless rig specifically designed with a continuous line for the custom built-in low rider rear and front racks. The chainstays are long and low to allow for carrying more weight while feeling even more stable than a regular short wheelbase bike. The driveside chainstay features a knurled turnbuckle for tensioning the belt drive.

Other cool features:

Rear tail-lights are incorporated into the rear rack. Custom handlebar/stem combo with built-in front headlight. Custom stainless fork. Rear rack was designed for carrying up to 4 Ortlieb panniers . Gates Carbon Belt drive system with a knurled turnbuckle on the drive-side chainstay for tensioning.

Gates Carbon Belt Drive, Shimano Alfine 11spd rear hub, Velocity wheels, Schwalbe Marathon Racer tires, Chris King headset and BB, Brooks saddle and grips, Velo Orange fenders, FSA crankset, BB7 disc brakes, Paul Love levers.

News Addition: NAHBS Stainless Road Adventure

This was one of the two bikes ridden to NAHBS this year. It features KVA stainless tubing, custom post and seat clamp using headset spacers to adjust height, custom fork with modified twin plate crown and built-in post mounts for Paul Racer brakes and hidden fender mounts, custom cable routing through the stays, polish and bead blasted finish featuring the creative First Nations artwork of Jai Kealy. Components include Chris King headset, Paul Component racer brakes, Velocity wheels, WTB saddle recovered by Recoveredsaddle.com, Bartape by Handlebra, and FSA cranks and bars. Gear carried in panniers by Ortlieb USA.

After 450 miles of riding, we experienced absolutely NO FLATS using the Schwalbe Ultremo ZX 28mm.

Sam and Aran have made it to Eurkea, California! The ride started last night from our friends, Al and Alice Krause, home. They spent the night in the Eagle House Inn in oldtown Eureka. Today they head towards Garberville. Check out all the updates on our Road to NAHBS blog.
