Sam Whittingham is currently in the small town of Imlay, just outside of Detroit. He is here to try and reclaim the Human Powered Hour record. Imlay is home to the Ford test track, a 5 mile perfectly flat and smooth oval designed testing cars.
Sam has held this record on 4 seperate occasions over the last 10 years. The current record stands at 87.1 km a mere 400m further than Sam’s previous record. This was set in 2007 at the Nissan test facility in Casa Grande Arizona.
The event runs Friday July 17 through Sunday July 19 and culminates with 6 hour endurance attempt, which Sam may or may not participate in……….
Along with Sam, the Varna team includes Builder and designer George Georgiev, Main launch man Steve nash and newest member Barbara Buatois from France. Barbara will be trying to best the womens mark of 73.4km set by Varna Rider Rosemarie Buhler in 2004.
Both Sam and Barbara will be making there first attempt Friday evening at seperate times in the new Varna “tempest” or possibly the already proven Diablo III.
Look for info and full results at the Wisil site.
